Typical activities
Who this page is for
This page is for consultants and consultancy businesses working in the following areas.
Your insurance needs depend on the services you provide and the responsibility you accept. We will ask about your actual assignments, who relies on your work and whether you work independently, within a client’s team or as a subcontractor to another consultancy.
If your work includes clinical trials, patient treatment, product testing, manufacturing or supply, or formal drug-safety or batch-release responsibilities, please tell us. These activities require additional information and individual assessment.
Scope of cover
The cover, explained in plain English
Professional indemnity insurance
Professional indemnity insurance can cover claims alleging that an error, omission or negligent professional service caused a client financial loss, together with associated defence costs, subject to the policy terms.
For example, a client might allege that an error in an economic model or supporting submission delayed a funding decision and caused financial loss. Whether a particular claim is covered depends on the circumstances and the policy wording.
Public liability insurance
Public liability insurance can cover claims for accidental injury to third parties or damage to their property arising from your business activities, subject to the policy terms. It may be relevant when visiting clients, attending meetings or working at their premises.
International work
Tell us where your clients are based, where you undertake your work and which law and courts apply to your contracts. Overseas work, including USA or Canada exposure, needs to be considered when arranging appropriate territorial and jurisdictional cover.
Cover is arranged by PLB on behalf of clients and is subject to underwriter acceptance and the terms, conditions, exclusions and limits of the policy issued.
